Over 300 bombs from the Second World War have been found at the old airport of Athens in Elliniko.

The news about the said bombs was disclosed by the mayor of Elliniko Argyroupoli himself, Yiannis Konstantatos, who, being informed about the controlled explosions taking place at the old airport, was told that hundreds of bombs had been found during the works.

The 314 bombs, which the Germans had stored, were 2 meters below the former facilities of the Pontic Surmene Union, kindergartens, and sports facilities, located within the former airport as well as next to Olympic Facilities.

These are spaces that thousands of people enter every day, the Mayor of Elliniko Argyroupoli, Yiannis Constantatos, said.

Finally, he thanked the Land Mine Clearance Battalion, which, even now 80 years later, and because of the investment made, are clearing the area next to houses.

The meeting was held so that there would be close cooperation in their communication with residents, who are upset because of the controlled explosions.
