Minister of Justice and Public Order, Emily Yiolitis, expressed the belief that upon the completion of the renovation of the former Paphos Gate Police Station and the Ledras Street Police Station there will be a big difference in the safety of the citizens in the center of Nicosia. The Minister visited both stations with the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Justice, in her statements, Ms. Yiolitis stated that “today, with the Chief of Police, we visited the Ledras Police Station, which reopened last Monday, January 11.”
She expressed “her satisfaction for the reopening of the station, which is also the implementation of the decision of the Cabinet to reduce the guard of politicians, as the police officers who were released from those duties have taken duty here in the old city of Nicosia so as to be able to guard it.”
She added that our goal is to increase the sense of security of the citizens, adding that the police officers who will staff the Ledras Police Station will be next to the citizens, they will guard the old city, they will be in Eleftherias Square and the surrounding streets just to increase the sense of security of the citizens.

Ms. Yiolitis added that earlier, she had the opportunity to visit Paphos Gate with the Chief of Police, “a building of historical importance”.
“Our wish is for Paphos Gate to reopen. Of course, it needs restoration and renovation so as to operate,” she said. Our aim, she noted, “is to move there, among others, the Police Museum, the Community and Bicycle Police within the city walls, the Cultural Heritage office of the Police and, in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities, to have a department inside the renovated building where the history of the Venetian City Walls can be highlighted.”
The Minister of Justice expressed satisfaction with the participation of these two buildings in the old city in a renovation program and expressed the belief that upon the completion of these projects there will be a big difference in the safety of citizens in the center of Nicosia.
She expressed her wishes to all the members of the Police who will man the Station in Ledras Street.
In his statements, the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou, said that “the Ledras substation has been operating recently so that the citizens will not only feel safe, but they also have real security. It will be the starting point for pedestrian patrols, bicycle patrols and small motorcycle patrols.”
He added, “It will be the place where our members who come to the area with other operational plans will come here to the service station when needed. The whole effort has to do with the real offer of quality security to the citizen.”
