It has been 50 years since August 14, 1974, half a century since the day when the second phase of the Turkish invasion began.

“We do not compromise with the occupation, we remain firmly optimistic for a reunified Cyprus, as we deserve” the President of the Republic of Cyprus emphasizes in his written message, on the occasion of the completion of the sad 50-year anniversary of the second phase of the Turkish invasion and occupation.

Nikos Christodoulidis’ message

“Today marks 50 years since the fateful day of the second phase of Turkey’s barbaric invasion that forcibly divided Cyprus, occupied it, expelled thousands of our compatriots and tragically determined the future of Cyprus, its people and its modern history.

Half a century later we condemn the crime in Cyprus, the ongoing occupation and We Don’t Forget.

We honor and remember the fallen, the missing, the heroically fighting, the refugee women and children.

At the same time, we know very well that justice will only come through the comprehensive resolution of the Cyprus issue, liberation, reunification, when real conditions of peace and security prevail in Cyprus. The current state of affairs is not and cannot be the future of Cyprus and our children. No solution is no solution. We do not compromise with the occupation, we remain firmly optimistic for a reunified Cyprus, as we deserve.

From the first day of assuming my duties I work tirelessly, in order to break the impasse and to resume talks with the aim of resolving the Cyprus issue as soon as possible. The only goal is the successful conclusion of the effort that has been ongoing for the last few months by the Secretary General of the United Nations, as a result of the recognition of our clear political will by the international community, to solve the problem.

Any challenges and uncompromising positions should not discourage us. On the contrary, they make us more stubborn, so that we work more persistently and methodically, taking advantage of every opportunity and creating conditions and opportunities.

I am ready to come even tomorrow to the dialogue table, on the basis of the agreed framework for finding a solution, the negotiated acquis and of course the principles and values of the European Union, of which Cyprus is a member state and will continue to be even after the solution of Cyprus.

The challenges that exist in the context of efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem can be addressed through the European acquis, which ensures the interests and basic freedoms of all European citizens.

In this effort for the success of our struggle, a necessary condition is the existence of a strong internal front and continuous efforts for a strong, prosperous and prosperous Republic of Cyprus.”

Nikos Dendias: We remain on the side of the Republic of Cyprus

In his post on X, the Minister of Defense of Greece, Nikos Dendias, underlines, among other things, that: “50 years since the second phase of Attila’s invasion, we remain on the side of the Republic of Cyprus. We honor our Greek and Cypriot brothers who fell in the line of duty, the missing and those who defended the island’s freedom. We don’t forget.

We continue to support the effort for a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem, but also to point out to the international community that this is primarily a question of the possession of an independent state and an EU member state”, the Minister of National Defence wrote in this regard on his personal account on “X” , Nikos Dendias.
