On Thursday, December 16, 2021, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Constantinos Floros, met with the NATO Supreme Allied Commander’s advisor in Europe (SACEUR) Mr. Stephen R. Convington.
During the meeting, which was cordial and constructive, issues of common interest were discussed with emphasis on international developments, while views were exchanged on the wider security situation, current allied actions and operations, the factors of instability and potential ways to address them as well as on the value of partnerships in terms of halting them.
The Chief of HNDGS had the opportunity to refer extensively to the security environment of the wider Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa as well as the crucial role that Greece plays as a pillar of security, stability and peace. In this context, special mention was made of the close relations that our country has developed with the states of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through a wide network of bilateral and multilateral collaborations, joint training and contacts.
In addition, he referred to the constant commitment of our country to the fulfilment of its obligations to the Alliance both in the operations sector and in defence spending, which traditionally exceed 2% of the state budget.
Particular reference was made to the attempt of Mr. R. Convington to lead the actions concerning the ongoing development of the NATO Military Strategy as well as to the institutional framework for the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA) with which the Alliance can develop flexible ways of tackling modern threats and challenges.
