The death toll from the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea on Friday afternoon in the Turkish province of Smirni has risen to 76, the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD) said.
In addition to the 76 people who lost their lives, another 962 people were injured.
Two hundred and nineteen “are still in hospitals” where they were admitted, while 743 were discharged, according to the same source.
According to Turkish Environment Minister Murat Kurum, the earthquake completely destroyed or caused severe damage to about forty buildings. About a thousand others suffered less extensive damage.
