Today, the EU launched a “humanitarian airlift” operation, consisting of three flights from Dubai and Brindisi, with the first arriving in Beirut on 11 October.

The flights will carry humanitarian aid, including hygiene items, blankets, and emergency shelter kits.

In addition, through the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism, aid from Spain, Slovakia, Poland, France, and Belgium has been delivered to Beirut since last week, while further aid from Greece will be delivered in the coming days.

The Commission finances the costs of transporting these deliveries and ensures smooth coordination.

The supplies donated by member states include medicines and medical supplies that are vital to help people in Lebanon who do not have access to emergency health care, especially for those who have been forcibly displaced.

The EU Emergency Response Coordination Center remains in close contact with Member States and humanitarian partners to mobilize further offers.

This aid comes on top of the EU’s humanitarian aid of around €104 million allocated to Lebanon this year, including the latest emergency aid.
