In the next 24 months, as part of the implementation of the “2030 Agenda,” military service is changing.
Nikos Dendias at the swearing-in of the 2024 5th ESSO at the Thebes Artillery Training Center emphasized that it will be a comprehensive process of acquiring extensive basic operational knowledge but also developing special skills, while he also underlined how the fighter’s uniform and equipment will also change and will include modern helmets, goggles, knee pads, elbow pads, accessories, and different water tanks.
At the same time, he announced that the implementation of a women’s voluntary conscription program will begin. Also, the soldier will be able, if he chooses, to be called back from the Armed Forces at regular intervals, he said in his speech.
The minister observed that the army of Greece is not professional, as in other countries, commenting that the constantly changing conditions also create new requirements.
According to the Minister, the soldier will be able to acquire skills useful for the Armed Forces but also useful for him, and for this reason, they are in constant contact with the employer organizations so that the skills that the young people in the army will acquire are corresponding to the needs of the modern market.
As he said, it is estimated that it will take about 36 months to change the reserve service and make it possible to implement the women’s voluntary conscription program.
The minister announced special presentations in the near future.
