In the evening hours of Tuesday, two patrol boats of the Coast Guard —the Hellenic Coast Guard— were informed by the Marine Observatory of Agrielia Lesvos that a high-speed boat is moving at high speed coming from the Turkish coast and heading towards the sea area of Plomari.
A Coast Guard patrol boat spotted the speedboat, which, after landing foreigners on the shore, was attempting to escape to the Turkish coast.
The speedboat operator did not comply with the light and sound signals of the patrol boats, and a pursuit ensued, resulting in his arrest. The 28-year-old operator of the boat was arrested, while the rest of the passengers are being sought. The Central Port Authority of Mytilini, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, seized the high-speed boat and a mobile phone device.
