In retaliation for the sabotage of Hezbollah’s loudspeakers, which left dozens dead and thousands injured, Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel, as its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, said the sabotage could constitute a declaration of war while speaking of punishment.

In particular, Hezbollah launched about 140 rockets towards Israel, near the border with Lebanon.

For its part, the Israeli army struck Beirut. In particular, the IDF announced that it carried out a targeted strike in Beirut targeting a high-ranking Hezbollah official without naming him.

Mass media from Lebanon are talking about the dead and injured. It is expected to ascertain the extent of the damage and also to reveal who was the target of the bombings.

The announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, in a post in English regarding the escalation of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, states the following:

“Cyprus is following closely the worrying developments in neighboring Lebanon and the region-at-large and is extremely concerned.

We reiterate our call to all parties to show the utmost restraint. Civilians must always be protected, in line with IHL.

We fully support the ongoing mediation efforts of our partners, both as regards the Blue Line by the US and France, as well as the efforts by the US, Egypt, and Qatar aiming to reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, release all the hostages, and surge humanitarian aid.

We reiterate that a wider escalation in the region is in no one’s interests. It would have devastating results and broader catastrophic consequences.”
