US Forces destroyed a self-propelled surface-to-air missile system on Houthi-controlled Yemeni territory on Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced yesterday.
Further, they shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Red Sea, the statement said, adding that a coalition ship also located and destroyed an anti-ship missile. No injuries or damage were reported.
For their part, the Houthis announced yesterday that they had targeted a British and two Israeli ships, after a British security company identified three attacks off the coast of that country in less than 24 hours.
Since November, the Houthis have carried out dozens of attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, saying they target ships linked to Israel.
They expanded their targets to include ships linked to the United States and the United Kingdom after the strikes that Washington and London carried out in January against their positions in Yemen.
The rebels say that they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released yesterday on social media, Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Shari, claimed that the rebels had carried out five military operations in the past 72 hours.
These operations included an attack on a British ship (Hope Island) in the Red Sea with a number of anti-ship missiles. Two Israeli ships, MSC GRACE F and MSC GINA, were also targeted with a certain number of ballistic and cruise missiles, he added.
