Russia seems to have intervened so that no statement would be made by the United Nations Security Council.
With this statement, the executive body of the International Organization would proceed with a strong complaint against the occupying forces in Cyprus regarding their attack in Pyla, against members of the Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP).
According to information, Moscow did not consider the text of the statement written by the Permanent Mission of Britain to the UN acceptable, which was approved by the United States and France. Further, neither China had any objections to the said text with which the Security Council would condemn the occupying forces for their unacceptable action in Pyla.
Russia precisely executed Turkey’s plan to block the announcement against the occupation regime and tried to “kill” the text. In fact, it prevented the publication of the announcement yesterday Saturday, saying that the issue is not urgent. It asked to postpone the release of the announcement until next week.
It is believed that the decision was made at the highest level of the Russian hierarchy, that is, by Vladimir Putin himself, who has fully identified with Turkey on many international issues. Until recently, Moscow – despite its relations with Ankara – maintained a good attitude towards the Cyprus issue.
Moscow is trying to make Turkey and the occupation regime go soft. This is an unacceptable and undiplomatic act, which follows the fact that Russia has not yet condemned the attack against the members of the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
The attitude of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus towards the Pyla-Arsos road construction projects is unacceptable and extremely wrong, the representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey, Omer Celik, notes, among others, via his post on Twitter/X.
