From Saturday 05 to Tuesday 08 August 2023, and in the context of the wider planning of HNDGS for international cooperation, the Hellenic Armed Forces participated in “SAGE WOLVERINE 23”. The latter is an exercise of the US Armed Forces which takes place from Wednesday 02 to Friday 11 August 2023 in the wider sea area of ​​the Ionian Sea.

According to an announcement of the HNDGS, the USS GERALD R. FORD (GRF) Aircraft Carrier participated in the exercise with its organic aircraft and escort ships as well as personnel and assets of the UK Armed Forces.

The Hellenic Armed Forces participated in the exercise with the following:

• 16 F-16 sorties;
• Frigate ELLI as part of its participation in Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2).
• During the joint training, the following complex operational scenarios were implemented:
• Air Defence Exercise (ADEX);
• Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT);
• Offensive Counter Air (OCA);
• Defensive Counter Air (DCA).

The participation of the Hellenic Armed Forces in “SAGE WOLVERINE 23” contributed to the promotion of the level of operational readiness and combat capability as well as the upgrading of the multi-layered military synergy of the Hellenic Armed Forces in a bilateral and inter-alliance context.
