A 29-year-old man, who, as it became known later, is of Turkish origin, presented himself at Ledras crossing point to enter the free areas of the Republic.

During the control procedure carried out by an Officer of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, it was established that he did not have the right to enter the free areas of the Republic.

The 29-year-old left the crossing point and stayed for some time in the buffer zone. At some point he ran to the checkpoint to enter the free areas. Immediately three members of the Police tried to stop him and as a result they were attacked by the 29-year-old.

He was pursued by another member of the Police and was stopped in another street nearby, where he was arrested for illegal entry into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and for assaulting members of the Police.

The three members of the Police who were attacked were taken to Nicosia General Hospital where they were treated and then discharged. One member of the Police has a broken shoulder, while the other two members have bruises on various parts of their bodies.

The Central Police Station of Nicosia is still investigating the case.
