The Greek company EODH will participate in the manufacture of the armor for Norway’s new Leopard 2A7 tanks. The agreement was signed today, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in the context of the DEFEA 2023 international defence exhibition in Athens, in the presence of the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos. On behalf of EODH, the agreement was signed by its President, Mr. Andreas Mitsis, and by Mr. Heinz Oestervoß, the company’s Senior Vice President, on behalf of KMW.
It is recalled that on February 3, 2023 Norway announced that it signed a contract with the German KMW for the supply of 54 Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks, with provision for an additional 18 tanks. The purpose is to replace 42 Leopard 2A4 tanks, while the cost of the contract exceeds 1.6 billion euros. According to the Norwegian government’s initial announcement, the first battle tank is expected to be delivered in 2026, while deliveries will continue until 2031.
In addition, as mentioned in the statements following the signing of the agreement at DEFEA 2023, the German KMW is holding talks with three European states for the supply of a total of 500 Leopard tanks. EODH will participate in the manufacture of the armor of the specific tanks if the talks end positively.
The new agreement between EODH and KMW confirms the long-term cooperation between the two companies. In fact, within the framework of the international defence and security exhibition Eurosatory 2022 in Paris, the aforesaid signed an agreement to strengthen their relations at a strategic level and ensure the supply chain for a period of 5 years. At the same time, this agreement proves the great potential of the Greek defence industry.
