We want a solution to the Cyprus problem that is fully compatible with our capacity as a member state of the European Union and on the basis of UN resolutions, said the Minister of Defence, Charalambos Petridis, at a service award event of Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK) personnel.
Mr. Petridis said that the goal and priority for the President of the Republic and the Government is to move forward with national unity and prudence in the hope that our country will live better days.
The Minister of Defence expressed the deep gratitude of the Cypriot state to the Greek government and the entire Greek people, for the very important work performed by the members of ELDYK over time with their presence here.
“The inextricable ties between Cyprus and Greece have been forged over the centuries, sealed with sacrifices and stained with blood in an effort to defend the high ideals and values of the nation. Your presence on the mainland strengthens national solidarity and proves on a daily basis that Greeks and Greek Cypriots are both on this common path in the impassable roads of our time,” he said.

He said that “the presence of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK) on the island is a timeless symbol of the strong and unwavering relationship of Cyprus with Greece. We are drawing strength to continue the difficult struggle until the final justification, which is none other than the coveted solution of the Cyprus problem, which will occur only with the withdrawal of Turkish troops, the overthrow of the occupation regime and the liberation of our enslaved territories.
Mr. Petridis stated that “the contribution of the Greek Forces in the defence against the Turkish invasion was decisive. Today, your presence is a factor of security for the long-suffering Cypriot people and Greece, under any circumstances, remains the permanent, stable, selfless supporter of the Republic of Cyprus.”
