The graduation ceremony of the Police Probation Training Class 151 took place today at the Cyprus Police Academy.
In a modest ceremony that took place in the presence of the Chief of Police, Mr. Stelios Papatheodoros, the Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Christos Mavris, the Assistant Training Chief, Mr. Georgios Frangos and the Director of the Police Academy, Mr. Themistos Arnaoutis, 54 members of this class graduated. These members were recruited by the Police on 15/11/2017 and underwent three years of training (Cyprus Police Academy, University of Cyprus, Emergency Response Unit (MMAD) and internship at Police Stations) with the most modern theoretical and practical training methods.
It is noted that the last part of the training for the permanent appointment of the above Police members was distance learning, due to the coronavirus pandemic and in compliance with the relevant Ministerial Decrees.
An important development for the police training sector, as mentioned by the Chief of Police in his speech, “is the upgrade of the training program for police probationers on the basis of European directives for higher education, but also on the basis of quality assurance in higher education.”
The upgrade itself includes a six-month training at the University of Cyprus, modernization of the study program of probationary police officers at the Cyprus Police Academy and MMAD as well as extension and systematization of their supervised internship under the supervision of a mentor.”
Also, addressing the graduating police officers, he urged them to always perform their duties with utter selflessness, determination, self-denial, honesty and objectivity, to apply the laws with impartiality, without arrogance or discrimination and avert corruption for which, as he stressed, zero tolerance will be shown. At the same time, he told them to be proud of their uniform, but also of the role assigned to them in guarding the security of the state and institutions.
Finally, referring to the challenge facing all humanity, but also our place to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, he noted that “the Police’s recent involvement against the pandemic proved that the Police can handle critical situations, gaining the respect and trust of the citizens.”
Upon graduation, the new members were given by the Chief of Police a badge bearing a metal emblem of the Police, the name of each police officer and a case to place their identity.
