Nikos Dendias | Greece will not become “Pavlov’s dog” for Turkey
“Greece takes action when and as it should and not in the way Turkey wants it to,” said today Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
Speaking at the Plenary Session of the Greek Parliament, Mr. Dendias stressed that “Greece is confident and Turkey will not succeed in creating the “Pavlov’s dog” syndrome in Greek foreign policy! Greece takes action when and as it should, not when Turkey wants it to. It is gratifying that the whole political world has read the clear and simplistic Turkish planning.”
At the same time, speaking today at an online event, Nikos Dendias said that “Greece has the misfortune to be next to a consistently provocative neighbor and the luck to be a member of the European Union, which is a lure and a fear for Turkey, creating a kind of protection zone.”
“If you ask me if we are satisfied, I will tell you that we would like the European Union to take a harder line on Turkey. But the EU is a Union of 27 countries. It works, fortunately, with unanimity. Sometimes, the national interest prevails over the European. However, it does not cease to be a very powerful, perhaps the most powerful, weapon of ours,” he pointed out.
Earlier today, Nikos Dendias had a telephone conversation with the new special envoy of the UN Secretary General for Libya, Jan Koubis.
During the discussion, Mr. Dendias underlined Greece’s full support in the political process, as well as in the work of the special envoy, according to a relevant post of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on twitter.
Mr. Dendias pointed out that in this context the decision was made to reopen the Greek embassy in Tripoli in the near future. It was also agreed to have an immediate face-to-face meeting to discuss all developments concerning Libya.
