Athens responded with Navtex to Ankara’s new challenge, which further extends the illegal Navtex of Oruc Reis inside the Greek continental shelf until November 14th.
Specifically, the Heraklion station of the Hydrographic Service of the Navy – as it always does when the Turks have issued an illegal Navtex and in an area of Greek jurisdiction – points out that the Turkish announcement “refers to illegal activity in an area that covers the Greek continental shelf.”
At the same time, the Heraklion station emphasizes that the specific Navtex has been issued by a station that does not have the responsibility for the specific area, which belongs to the Hydrographic Service of the Navy.

At the same time, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that this action creates further tension in a vulnerable area in which attention is currently focused on providing assistance and expressing messages of support and solidarity.
“These actions show once again that Turkey continues to act against the calls from the international community, including last October’s European Council Conclusions calling on Turkey to end these actions,” the statement said. Greece once again condemns this delinquent behavior, which removes the prospect of a constructive dialogue. At the same time, it calls on Turkey to immediately revoke its illegal Navtex.
Finally, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias gave instructions for an immediate protest to the Turkish side, as well as informs Allies and Partners about the continuing provocative Turkish behavior.
