Sakellaropoulou | “A united diplomatic front, always guided by the common national interest”
Greece and Cyprus have a united diplomatic front, always guided by the common and national interest, stressed the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in her short conversation with the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis before the media prior to the talks between the two countries.
The President of the Republic warmly welcomed his Greek counterpart and expressed the gratitude of the Cypriot Hellenism for the timeless, tireless stance and the sacrifices of the Greek people, who support the Republic of Cyprus, the Cypriot Hellenism itself and international law.
He pointed out that Ms. Sakellaropoulou’s visit coincides with a period of crisis, caused by Turkish illegal actions in both the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, with a series of acts which, as she said, could have led to an undesirable situation if Greece’s response was not calm.
Responding, the President of the Hellenic Republic referred to the “very special relationship” that connects Greece and Cyprus, noting the “great importance that Greece attaches to the Cyprus issue.”

As Ms. Sakellaropoulou said, her visit to Cyprus takes place at a very special, difficult time due to the Turkish provocation.
She added that her visit aims to emphasize that our two countries have a united diplomatic front, always guided by the common and national interest based on international law.
Regarding the withdrawal of Oruc Reis from the region, the Greek President said that it is a step towards de-escalation, but it remains to be seen whether it was a tactical move or a choice that has a horizon and continuity.
“I look forward to the discussions and exchanges of views that we will have on what the situation is at the moment, how we evaluate it and what the appropriate moves are,” said the President of the Hellenic Republic.
