With an impressive video posted on social media Rheinmetall presented the development of the Lynx combat vehicle family, which aims to meet a wide range of needs of the company’s customers around the world.
The Lynx comes in 2 main versions. The KF31 version weighs up to 38 tons and can carry three (3) crew members (driver, gunner, commander) and six (6) members of the combat team. The KF41 version weighs 50 tons and can carry three (3) crew members and a combat team of eight (8).
Each version (KF31-KF41) features an engine of different power, 750hp and 1.140hp respectively as well as a different transmission (Allison X300 and Renk HSWL 256 respectively). The mobility dynamics are the same for both vehicles (500 km range with a maximum speed of 65-70 km per hour on road).
The Lynx combines ergonomics and modular design with all configurations sharing a common vehicle in which different parts (kits) are added and removed, depending on the vehicle version or mission. Similarly, the level of armor and armament is adjusted according to the requirements of the mission. According to Rheinmetall, switching a Lynx from one configuration to another can be done within eight (8) hours. The Lynx can be configured for various roles:
- Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV)
- Command & Control
- Armoured reconnaissance
- Repair & Recovery
- Ambulance

To date, the Lynx has been selected by Hungary and is a candidate for purchase from Australia in the final phase of the APC (Armour Personnel Carrier) M113 replacement program with 450 infantry fighting vehicles (LAND 400 Phase 3 – Mounted Close Combat Capability).
Hungary will receive 218 Lynx KF41s with a 30mm Lance tower under a €2 billion agreement, which includes, among other things, domestic co-production of the vehicle.
