Last night NATO denied the deployment of foreign troops on the border with Belarus, assuring that the allegations are “baseless”, responding indirectly to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
“Any allegation that NATO strengthens its forces on the border with Belarus is baseless. As we have already made clear, NATO poses no threat to Belarus or any other country and does not deploy military aid in the region,” assured Oana Lungescu, a spokeswoman for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The representative of the Atlantic Alliance assured that NATO is in a “purely defensive” position. “We remain vigilant, ready to deter any attack and to defend our allies. We call on Minsk to show full respect for the fundamental rights of the people of Belarus,” Lungescu added.
On its part, the Polish government described the statements of the Belarusian leader as “regime propaganda”, while on the same wavelength, Lithuanian President Gitana Nauseda spoke of “completely non-existent statements about imaginary external threats.”
