The treaty for the overall strategic partnership with North Korea was voted unanimously by the Russian parliamentarians.

The vote in the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, came as the West claims it has evidence of sending thousands of North Korean soldiers to Russia.

This comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and North Korea was signed on June 19 during a rare visit by President Vladimir Putin to Pyongyang as part of the rapprochement between the two countries.

A total of 397 Duma deputies voted in favor of ratifying the treaty, which will then have to be sent to the upper house of parliament, the Federation Council, for a vote before being signed by President Putin.

Article 4 of the treaty provides for immediate military assistance in the event of an armed attack by third countries.

According to this text, if one of the parties suffers an armed attack by any state or group of states and thus finds itself in a state of war, the other party shall immediately provide military or other assistance by all means at its disposal, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and Russian and North Korean legislation.
