According to an announcement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), in the context of prevention of and response to natural disasters, on Friday, October 15, 2021 and following directions by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias, and the Chief of GEETHA, General Konstantinos Floros, a BAILEY-type military metal bridge with a 15m opening was installed in Politika, Evia.
At the request of the Municipality of Dirfion – Messapia and with the consent of the technical services of the Region which assisted in the works, the BAILEY bridge replaced an old one with a pier, which used to prevent the flow of the underlying stream causing floods.
The installation of the bridge was carried out on the same day by personnel of the 747th Special Engineer Battalion, under the supervision of the Design and Construction Unit (MOMKA) of GEETHA, under particularly adverse weather conditions.
