The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced on Thursday that its air defence systems shot down a Turkish drone over the strategic city of Sirte, according to BulgarianMilitary.com, citing Al-Masdar News.

A Libyan Air Force official, Mahmoud al-Margani, said Turkey “this morning dropped a drone from one of its bases in Misrata towards the city of Sirte to target Libyan Army (LNA) positions.”

Al-Margani added that “the air defence forces located the aircraft before it reached any location near the LNA positions and it was shot down near the western coast of the city.”

It is worth noting that on the front that stretches from Sirte in the east to Misrata in the west, there has been a relatively calm period between the Libyan army (LNA) and the forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA) supported by Turkey.

However, this brief period of calm is not expected to last long, as both forces gather their troops along the western front of Sirte, awaiting a major battle near the coast.
