Turkey’s defence exports reached $5.5 billion in 2023, increased by approximately 25% compared to the previous year.

The Export Commission in Turkey published these new figures in its annual report. However, it does not specify whether all this revenue comes from new orders or contracts signed in previous years. Thus, it is unclear how much of the $5.5 billion comes from new contracts signed in 2023.

Haluk Gorgun, who heads the country’s defence industries presidency, said on Twitter that the total value of contracts signed by Turkish defence companies in 2023 reached $10.2 billion.

The top 10 Turkish exporters contributed nearly 80% of export revenue, according to Gorgun. These are the top companies by overseas sales:

  • Baykar: $1.8 billion
  • Turkish Aerospace Industries: $864 million
  • Machinery and Chemical Industry (Ammunition, Explosives and Weapons): $439 million
  • Tusas Engine Industries: $337 million
  • BMC: $255 million
  • Roketsan: $161 million
  • Ram Dis Ticaret: $160 million
  • Pratt & Whitney’s Turkish Technik: $111 million
  • Aselsan: $108 million
  • Samsun Yurt Savunma: $104 million

As Defense News reports, one of Roketsan’s main exports is MAM-type munitions, used by Baykar and TAI unmanned platforms. Samsun Yurt Savunma is the holding company of Canik Firearms, a firearms manufacturer in Turkey.

Ram Dis Ticaret acts as an export company for the local industrial group Koc Holding, which owns the military vehicle manufacturer Otokar.
