Cyprus remains a security bridge in the region, Nicosia said, clarifying that flights are operating normally in the airspace of Cyprus, while the number of air carriers canceling connections with Israel and Lebanon is increasing.

The representative of the Cypriot government, Konstantinos Letympiotis, denied rumors circulating on the internet about the alleged closure of Cyprus’ airspace with a post on X.

Airlines are avoiding Iranian and Lebanese airspace and canceling flights to Israel and Lebanon as concerns grow over a possible conflict in the region following the killing of senior Hamas and Hezbollah members this week.

The latest of these is the Dutch KLM, which announced the day before yesterday that it canceled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26. In the past two days, Air India, Germany’s Lufthansa Group, US United Airlines and Delta Air and Italy’s ITA Airways have announced they are suspending flights to Tel Aviv.

Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated earlier that Cyprus’ role is to act as a security bridge in the region, in case tensions escalate and countries choose to evacuate their citizens.
