The accident that took place today in the area of Trooditissa, with a National Guard Officer falling from a significant height during an exercise, causing him serious injuries, turned out to be fatal.
The announcement of the National Guard in detail:
A severe accident during an exercise of the National Guard took place this morning in the area of Trooditissa.
The National Guard Officer, as part of a planned training focusing on “military search at altitude” fell to the ground from a significant height under conditions which are being investigated.
The officer was evacuated by helicopter to the General Hospital of Nicosia where the doctors pronounced him dead.
Police are investigating the accident as part of the death investigation. At the same time, the National Guard General Staff (GEEF) has ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident.
The Ministry of Defence expresses its sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the Officer.
