From Monday 2 to Friday 13 October 2023, and in the context of the wider planning of NATO in terms of international cooperation, the Hellenic Armed Forces participated in the Multinational Air Exercise “NATO TIGER MEET 2023”. The said exercise was conducted under the command of the Italian Air Force (ITAF) at Gioia Del Colle Airport in Italy.
“NATO TIGER MEET 2023” is an INVITEX – LIVEX (Invitation to an Exercise – Live Exercise) exercise that takes place on an annual basis with the participation of the NATO Aircraft Squadrons that belong to the NATO TIGER ASSOCIATION. These aircraft bear the call sign “TIGER”.
The Hellenic Armed Forces participated in the exercise with 4 F-16s and the corresponding support personnel. It is noted that the “NATO TIGER MEET 2022” was held for the first time in Greece at Araxos Air Base, sealing the important role played by the Hellenic Armed Forces within the Alliance.
Personnel and aircraft from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, USA, the UK, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Turkey, and the Czech Republic also participated in the exercise alongside NATO’s NE-3A fighter (AWACS).
According to an announcement, the purpose of the “NATO TIGER MEET 2023” exercise was to provide training and practice for the participants in planning and conducting air operations at the tactical level by applying the doctrine, terminology, and procedures of the Alliance, promoting – at the same time – solidarity between the air forces of NATO member-states and partners as well as showcasing their aviation power.
During the exercise, complex advanced aviation training scenarios were conducted with a variety of air systems, which created a highly demanding operational environment, helping to promote interoperability and synergy as well as increase readiness and combat capability among the participants.
