A meeting took place today, Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Police Headquarters, between the Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Christos Mavris, and the Liaison Officer of the Frontex Organization for Greece and Cyprus, Mr. Grigorios Apostolos.

After congratulating Mr. Mavris on his recent appointment to the position of Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Apostolou focused on the problem of illegal immigration in Cyprus and on finding ways to deal with the problem, including the operational support of the Frontex Organization.
Furthermore, Mr. Apostolou expressed his satisfaction for the efforts made by the Cyprus Police in matters of illegal immigration, but also for the fruitful cooperation that has been developed and maintained at high levels between Frontex and the Cyprus Police.

Reference was also made to the significant presence and contribution of the Cypriot police officers, who served in Evros at a critical time for the Hellenic Republic, regarding the issue of illegal immigrants.
Mr. Mavris, on his part, praised the role and assistance of the Frontex Organization in matters of external border management, with the ultimate goal of reducing illegal migration and especially the activity of the Organization in Cyprus. At the same time, he stressed the will of the Cyprus Police to further strengthen the already constructive cooperation between the two Organizations.
