Decreased serious crime rates and increased theft rates in March

The number of cases related to serious crime in March decreased by 3.9%, compared to the same period last year, Police spokesman Christos Andreou told the Cyprus News Agency.

Mr Andreou said the number of allegations of serious crime amounted to 129 in March in contrast to 163 in the same period last year.

He also said that for the same month, the number of reported cases of burglary decreased to 110 this year compared to 114 in the same period last year, while the number of reported cases of theft rose to 64 this year compared to 48 in the same period last year.

He also said that the number of drug cases in March was 71, in contrast to 78 cases reported in the same period last year. Mr Andreou said the death toll had risen to 12 since the beginning of the year, with one fatal crash in March, compared to eight in the same period last year.
