The European Commission called on Turkey “to maintain spirit of solidarity without discrimination”, regarding the fact that a flight transporting medical equipment to Cyprus yesterday was denied entry into its airspace.
More specifically, the Commission/ EEAS spokesman, Peter Stano, invited to comment by CNA during the daily midday briefing of the European Commision, stated that “the best way to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and its impact is international solidarity and close cooperation”.
“We are aware of this issue and the extraordinary circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic really require solidarity without exceptions”, the spokesman said.
“Turkey has been providing assistance medical supplies to many countries all around the world and participated also in the coronavirus global response conference,” he added.
“Therefore we would expect and encourage Turkey to maintain this spirit of solidarity without discrimination,” Peter Stano stated.
