Five years after imposing restrictions on arms exports to Turkey, Norway has decided to accept Ankara’s arms applications.
The decision to take back the titles and honors it had awarded a year ago to the US Senator Bob Menendez was taken by the Municipality of Paphos.
The reason was the conviction of the senator by a US federal court in Manhattan for a total of 16 criminal charges and mainly for corruption.
As stated in a statement from the Municipality of Paphos, the decision to remove the titles of honor that were given last August to Menendez was taken unanimously after a meeting of the Municipal Council on Wednesday.
The title of Honorary Citizen was awarded and the Golden Key of the City of Paphos was handed over to the then Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate in August 2023.
These honors were awarded in a decision of the Municipal Council of Paphos taken in December 2022, with the then mayor Phaidonas Phaidonos who was re-elected in the recent elections and supported the current decision as well.
The mayor of Pafos Phaidonas Phaidonos explained the reasoning behind the decision, with which the Municipality considers that the decision of the Municipal Council actually contributes to the creation of a culture against corruption and entanglement, which strengthens the institutions of society and the country.
