Turkey suspended all trade with Israel as of yesterday, Thursday, Bloomberg reported, citing two Turkish officials.
On April 9, Turkey had announced the imposition of an export embargo against Israel on 54 categories of products, as a reaction to the operations of the Israeli Army in the Gaza war.
The embargo at the time included various types of products, mainly construction materials such as aluminum and steel, paints, electrical cables, building materials, fuels and other raw materials.
Trade volume between the two countries was recorded at $6.8 billion in 2023. So far, there is no official position on the matter from the Turkish side.
The news, however, was confirmed by a post on the X platform by Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, accusing the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of violating the agreements by blocking the ports for Israeli imports and exports and claiming that this is how a dictator behaves, ignoring both the interests of the Turkish people and businessmen and international trade agreements.
It was also clarified that he has instructed the Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry to consider alternative solutions, focusing on local production and imports from other countries.
