Britain will gradually increase its defence spending to reach 2.5% of GDP by 2030, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Tuesday from Warsaw, confirming an extra £500m in aid to Ukraine.
Sunak, who is visiting Poland, announced the biggest boost to national defence in a generation, confirming this new £500m contribution to Ukraine’s war against the Russian invasion.
The increase in spending from 2.3% to 2.5% will allow Britain to be among the top defence spenders in NATO.
Britain is expected to spend £87 billion on defence in 2030-2031, an increase of £23 billion on current spending.
