The Taliban announced late Tuesday that they would not attend a peace conference on Afghanistan to be held in Constantinople this month unless all foreign forces withdraw from Afghanistan.
“Unless all foreign forces withdraw completely from our homeland, (we) will not participate in any conference making decisions on Afghanistan,” Mohammad Naeem, the Taliban’s spokesman in Qatar, tweeted.
US President Joe Biden is expected to make announcements later today, Wednesday, about the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said yesterday.
US troops still in Afghanistan are expected to leave “unconditionally” by September 11, 2021, the 20th anniversary of al-Qaeda’s attacks on the United States, a US official said yesterday.
