The extension of the military service to 12 months was announced by the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, noting that this will take place soon.

Speaking to reporters from Thassos, Mr. Panagiotopoulos referred to the presence of military officers in Evros and stressed that they will be strengthened both by the recruitment of professional soldiers and the increase of students in the Military Academies, as well as the arrival of more conscripts in the context of the extension of military service to 12 months “which will take place soon”.

At the same time, he sent a message that no one in Evros should be afraid.

It is recalled that during his speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair, Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had pointed out that the government is considering compulsory conscription at 18, immediately after high school, and the possibility of extending it from nine to twelve months.
