The crew of the Russian destroyer “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” is conducting submarine search drills in the Mediterranean, the press service of the Northern Fleet announced on Friday.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, a KA-27PL anti-submarine helicopter also took part in the exercise.

“The helicopter crew conducted several sorties from the destroyer’s deck to search for submarines in the designated area. During the flight, the pilots practised searching for an underwater target via a submergible hydroacoustic station,” the press service said.

The “Vice-Admiral Kulakov” destroyer has been in the Mediterranean since early August. The ship has docked in Algeria and Cyprus, while it has also conducted several naval exercises. So far, the ship has traveled more than 15.000 nautical miles.
