The new Chief of Police, Mr. Stelios Papatheodorou, and the new Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Christos Mavris, were sworn in today at the Presidential Palace.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, said that “by exercising the powers granted to me by the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, I am today appointing Stylianos Papatheodorou and Christos Mavris to the positions of Chief and Deputy Chief of Police, respectively.”
On his part, the new Chief of Police, speaking on behalf of the Deputy Chief, said, among other things, that “with a deep sense of responsibility we will work to fulfill our mission with the ultimate goal of maintaining public order and security.” He added that changes in modern crime have been evident, including immigration, organized crime, corruption, cybercrime leading to the need for immediate action, and noted that the success of the police was due to smooth cohesion.
He also pointed out that the priority of the Police is the establishment of security conditions in society. He also noted that Cyprus today is one of the safest countries in the world and this is something we must maintain.
Mr. Papatheodorou added that the Police has proved its value to society and is present with all its forces in the task. Finally, he stated that the Police will be next to the citizens so as to safeguard their security.
