An announcement was issued by the Ministry of Interior on the occasion of the laxation of the measures concerning the movement through the checkpoints, from and to the areas controlled by the Government of the Republic.
The announcement reminds that the Republic of Cyprus, as of June 21, will allow the movement from and to the areas controlled by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, to all Cypriot citizens and persons residing legally in the Republic of Cyprus.
In particular, the movement of all groups of persons included in the previous announcement of the Ministry of Interior (on June 5) will be allowed. This applies only if they will present, for the first time they pass the checkpoints, a negative molecular examination certificate for COVID-19 disease, issued up to 72 hours before the crossing. Random sampling tests will be performed afterwards.
The categories of persons who will only have to present a negative molecular examination certificate for the first time are:
- a) Turkish Cypriot workers who will have to present a certificate of employment from their employer that includes their full name and Social Security number (AKA). Copies or e-mails of these certificates will be accepted.
- b) Greek Cypriot workers who live permanently in the Tilliria area and work in Nicosia. For these cases, a relevant certificate must be submitted by their employer that includes a full name and Social Security number (AKA). It is understood that the unimpeded passage of ambulances from the Tillyria area to Nicosia will also be allowed.
- c) Turkish Cypriot students studying in schools or academic institutions located in the areas controlled by the RoC and who will pass only via the Ledra Palace checkpoint. Their transportation will be done only with means available to the schools and academic institutions in which they study.
Private vehicles will not be allowed to pass via checkpoints. For this purpose, a certificate of attendance from the school or academic institution must be submitted, which must include the full name. Pupils / students are allowed to contact the schools / academic institutions in which they study, in order to be informed about the details of their transport from the Ledra Palace checkpoint.
- d) Entrapped, as well as resettled, Greek Cypriots and Maronites who live permanently in the occupied territories.
- e) Cypriot citizens, residing in the occupied territories, who receive medical treatment at the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus, at the Institute of Neurology and Genetics and in Public or Private Hospitals in the non-occupied areas. A relevant medical certificate must be provided by a doctor or hospital, which will include a full name.
All Cypriot citizens who do not fall in the above categories, as well as all legal residents, will be able to pass to and from the areas controlled by the RoC, provided that they present a negative molecular examination certificate for COVID-19 every time they travel. The test will have to be issued up to 72 hours before the crossing.
Passage via checkpoints will also be permitted on exception by the Minister of Interior for humanitarian reasons.
