The University of Neapolis Paphos, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus and Strategy International, is organising a significant conference on European defence, military diplomacy, and the defence industry, with a particular focus on Cyprus’s role within the European defence strategy.
The event will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 27 March 2025, at 5:30 p.m., at the “Kerynia” Amphitheater of Neapolis Paphos University. The conference will bring together leading experts and officials in defence and diplomacy.
Major General Haris Georgiou, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Defence, will outline Cyprus’s strategic directions in defence.
Elena Rafti, Diplomatic Advisor of the Ministry of Defence, will discuss Cyprus’s cooperation with European institutions and the significance of European solidarity in security matters.
Dr Panagiotis Chatzipavlis, retired Commander (I) and Director of Defence at the Department of General Tenders and Defence Capabilities Development at the Ministry of Defence, will present the challenges and opportunities in the defence industry.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr Marios Panagiotis Efthymiopoulos, Associate Professor of International Security & Strategy, Chairman of the Department of History, Politics and International Studies of Neapolis Paphos University and Chairman of Strategy International.
The conference will focus on key issues such as Cyprus’s role in European defence strategy, the challenges and opportunities for European security, and the Republic of Cyprus’s cooperation with European institutions in the lead-up to its Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
According to an official announcement, the event will be held exclusively in person and is open to the public, providing an excellent opportunity to gain and participate in discussions on security and the future of Europe.
Neapolis Paphos University, with its strong commitment to academic excellence and fostering dialogue on critical international security and strategy issues, invites all interested parties to attend the conference and contribute to discussions on the future of European Defence and Security.
