The Motor Oil Group constantly supports the Hellenic Armed Forces with substantial initiatives, as stated in its announcement.
In this context, an honorary event was held at the Ministry of National Defence yesterday, Thursday, 20 February, in the presence of the Minister, Mr Nikos Dendias, and the President and CEO of the Group, Mr Ioannis Vardinogiannis, to recognise the Group’s long-term contribution to the Hellenic Navy.
During the event, a donation of €5 million was announced. Of this, €4.5 million will be allocated for the construction of the 4th and 5th floors at the Naval Hospital of Athens (NNA), which will include new hospital wards located above the surgical wing.
This initiative aims to enhance the level of medical care provided to NNA patients and improve healthcare services for Navy officers.
This significant donation is dedicated to the memory of Honorary Rear Admiral Vardis I. Vardinogiannis, the late Chairman of the Motor Oil Group, whose life was inextricably linked with the Hellenic Navy. The new hospital wings will bear his name.
Additionally, a pioneering bio-safe operation project will be implemented for these new wings of the Naval Hospital of Athens. This initiative, undertaken by DNAsequence SRL, aims to optimise the hospital’s bio-safety protocols through metagenomic analysis.
Furthermore, the Group has allocated an additional €500,000 for the renovation of the infrastructure of the Naval Cadet School’s medical centre, as well as for the procurement of new medical equipment.
During the event, the status of Reserve Officer with the rank of Commander was conferred upon the President and CEO of the Group, Mr John B. Vardinogiannis.
It was also announced that, following a proposal by the Minister of National Defence, the Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix will be awarded posthumously to the late Honorary Rear Admiral Vardis I. Vardinogiannis by the Presidency of the Republic, in a ceremony to be held in the near future.
