The US Congress confirmed the victory of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 3, 2020, after rejecting the Republican objections to the validity of the results in Pennsylvania. For the first time, outgoing President Trump spoke about a smooth transition of power.
Hours after hundreds of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, the Congress resumed work to validate Biden’s victory in last November’s election, with the debate continuing into the early hours of Thursday morning.
Following a debate, the House of Representatives and the Senate rejected two counts and approved the final vote of the electoral college, with Biden receiving 306 votes and Trump 232.

The result was never called into question, but the meeting was interrupted by rioters – encouraged by Trump – who went through the metal railings, smashed windows and entered the Capitol. According to the police, four people lost their lives during the incidents.
CNN reports that for the first time President Trump publicly announced that he will step down on January 20, promising that there will be a smooth transition of power, after the ratification of the election result by the Congress.
“Although I strongly disagree with the outcome of the election and the facts confirm it, there will be a smooth transition on January 20,” Trump said in a statement, reiterating his false allegations over the past two months, CNN reported.
“I have always said that we would continue our struggle to ensure that only legitimate votes are counted. While this means the end of the longest first term in presidential history, it is only the beginning of our struggle to make America Great Again,” he stated.
