THEON’s participation at the International Defence Exhibition IDEX-NAVDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 17 to 21 February 2025, was marked by a strong presence.
During the event, the Minister of Defence, Nikos Dendias, visited THEON’s stand. THEON also welcomed Mr Ali Al Ashban, CEO of NCMS, and Mr Fahad Alessa, Chief Commercial & Product Development Officer of NCMS, a company with which THEON maintains a long-term strategic partnership.
At its booth at IDEX-NAVDEX 2025—one of the world’s largest international defence and security exhibitions—THEON presented not only its internationally recognised best-selling night vision and thermal imaging systems but also its new integrated solution, the A.R.M.E.D (Augmented Reality Modular Ecosystem of Devices) ecosystem. Developed in partnership with SCYTALYS, this ecosystem played a central role in THEON’s presentation as its proposal for the “Soldier of the Future” programme.

This integrated system significantly enhances the capabilities of the modern warfighter, increasing situational awareness, operational effectiveness, and survivability.
THEOΝ in collaboration with SCYTALYS, presented the A.R.M.E.D. ecosystem as its proposal for the “Soldier of the Future”
A.R.M.E.D. ecosystem includes:
- THEON’s unified fused binocular night vision system, “ORION,” simultaneously provides an image combining light amplification and thermal imaging, merging both into a single integrated device. This enables the modern warfighter to achieve enhanced detection capabilities even in adverse lighting conditions, while also displaying critical augmented reality information directly in the user’s field of vision.
- As an alternative to the ORION and following a modular approach that enables the upgrade of existing night vision equipment, THEON introduced the “IRIS-C” thermal clip-on attachment. It can be mounted on all THEON night vision systems, such as MIKRON, NYX or ARGUS, as well as on any other night vision system avaliable on the market. Similar to ORION, IRIS fuses light enhancement with thermal imaging and can additionally display critical augmented reality data to the user, such as distinguishing between friendly or enemy forces or marking targets of interest.
- For daytime operations, THEON offers the state-of-the-art “THEA” head-up display, which presents the same tactical augmented reality data along with video feeds from various electro-optical sensors.
- All the above systems are connected to the Smart Battery Pack (SBP) of THEON or, alternatively, with the Smart Gateway, which are power/processing units through which the interface with the used Battle Management System (BMS) is achieved.
The ecosystem A.R.M.E.D. can integrate with any Battle Management System (BMS). During IDEX, the ecosystem A.R.M.E.D. presented interfaced with the Battle Management System (BMS) MIMS Ranger of SCYTALYS and the Combat Tablet of SCYTALYS, which features the size of a mobile phone and attaches to the wearer’s protective carrier at chest level.

Through this smart display, the warfighter can operate the BMS and select the type of data displayed on all systems in the A.R.M.E.D family.

The success of the new A.R.M.E.D. interconnected ecosystem was confirmed by recent announcements from THEON regarding new orders totaling €53 million, the majority of which came from the German Army under the ongoing “Soldier of the Future” (IdZ) programme.

These orders were for the new head-up display system Heads-Up Display “THEA” of THEON and the Smart Gateway, both of which belong to the above series of systems A.R.M.E.D., demonstrating the significant commercial acceptance of the new ecosystem and highlighting its potential for significant new sales in this sector.
THEON anticipates orders from other countries launching similar programs.
