The President will brief leaders at the informal European Council on the results of Geneva

The President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, will brief the leaders of the EU Member States on the results of the informal conference on the Cyprus issue in Geneva, as part of the informal European Council meeting that will be held in Porto, Portugal on May 8, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios told CNA.

Mr Kousios said that although the Council is informal and that no discussion on the matter is expected, the President wIll brief his European partners on what happened in Geneva, calling for continued support from the EU and its Member States in their efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem in line with UN resolutions, EU principles and values.

It is noted that EU leaders will meet in Porto on May 8 to discuss social issues, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The informal meeting of the European Council will follow the High Level Conference organized by the EU Portuguese Presidency on May 7.
