The National Guard honours its Fallen
Defence Redefined

The memorial service of late Lieutenant General Evaggelos Florakis, Air Marshal Stylianos Demenegas, Lieutenant Commander Nicolas Georgiou, Squadron Leader Paris Athanasiadis and Group Captain Michalis Siakallis – who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on July 10, 2002 – was held today at the Apostolos Loukas church in Kouklia village. The service was officiated by the Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos. 

The memorial service was held in the presence of the Speaker of Parliament Mrs. Annita Dimitriou and the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Democritus Zervakis, who also represented the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis.

The eulogy was delivered by the Speaker of Parliament, while the National Guard Military Detachment paid tribute to the Fallen.

A representative of the Ambassador of Greece, MPs, party delegations and local authorities, the Commander of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK), Colonel Stylianos Tinanas, the Air Force Commander, Air Commodore Marios Floridis, the Navy Commander, Captain Dimitrios Masouras, a representative of the Police Chief and National Guard personnel representatives also attended the service.

The memorial service was followed by a Trisagion and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Fallen Officers at the site of the helicopter crash.
