The Greek Foreign Ministry refutes Turkish reports about Dendias’ reference to Cyprus’ NATO membership

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterizes the reports made by the Turkish press, according to which Nikos Dendias requested Cyprus’ NATO membership, as utterly untrue.
Commenting on the specific reports to the Cyprus News Agency, Greek diplomatic sources noted that such an issue was never raised by the Greek Foreign Minister. At the same time, they emphasized that in his position, Mr. Dendias referred to the need for cooperation between NATO and the European Union, noting that this implies equal cooperation of all Member States, including the Republic of Cyprus.
The same sources emphasized to the Cyprus News Agency that any relationship between the Republic of Cyprus and NATO is a sovereign issue and right of the country, while they reiterated that the Greek Foreign Minister never referred to Cyprus’ Alliance membership.
