The Cyprus Security and Defence Academy (CSDA) and the Austrian National Defence Academy, under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), are co-organising the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Orientation Seminar in Larnaca, from 26 to 30 May 2025.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the seminar focuses on enhancing understanding of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), which forms an integral part of the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). The seminar offers participants a comprehensive framework for grasping the institutional structures of the CSDP, current policy developments, and related processes. It also provides an opportunity for attendees to exchange views and perspectives with colleagues and professionals in the field. Furthermore, it includes discussions on security dynamics concerning the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf region.

The seminar will host fifty participants coming  from ten EU member states—Cyprus, Greece, Austria, Armenia, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Malta, Slovenia, and Portugal—as well as from Jordan and the United States of America.

The seminar was officially opened with welcome addresses by the Austrian Ambassador to Cyprus, Susanne Bachfischer, and the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General George Tsitsikostas. The opening ceremony was attended by ambassadors and representatives of foreign embassies in Cyprus, the Director of the International Relations Service of the House of Representatives, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Cypriot Armed Forces Association.
