In the presence of H.E. the Ambassador of Great Britain to Greece, Mr. Matthew Lodge, a memorandum of cooperation recently signed at Skaramangas between SubSea Craft and Skaramangas Shipyards for the development of a maritime innovation centre in Greece.

At the same time, in the memorandum signed by its CEO, SubSea Craft, Ms. Camilla Martin, and the Vice President and Managing Director of Skaramangas Shipyards, Mr. Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, agreed that Skaramangas Shipyards will become the manufacturer of the vessel Victa platform for the Greek and European markets.

The VICTA vessel is an innovative platform designed for Special Forces operations in coastal areas. The vessel has the ability to move at a high speed of up to 40 knots and cover distances of up to 250 nautical miles. At the same time, it can also move under the surface of the water for distances of up to 30 miles, while it also features stealth technology.

According to SubSea Craft, the craft’s multiple capabilities and automatic navigation systems allow VICTA to respond to any challenging mission scenario and safely transport special operations personnel where needed. Its unique design allows it to operate precisely and with the least possible exposure.

Finally, these capabilities can be exploited both in defence and in the field of civil protection as well as for protection against asymmetric threats.

The complex production requirements of such an advanced vessel will be developed in collaboration between the two companies in Skaramangas. Strengthening the technological capabilities of the Shipyards through the transfer of know-how is certainly one of the benefits of this agreement. At the same time, through the maritime innovation centre, there will be cooperation for the development of autonomous and unmanned vessels for defence purposes.

These synergies will maximize the benefits for the Greek defence industry, while the establishment of such a centre in Greece, in addition to the jobs it will create, will also be a centre for the absorption of European research funds.

The innovation centre will enhance domestic capabilities by offering Greek researchers and engineers experience to develop and maintain future generations of such platforms. It will also strengthen the consolidation of the joint statement on bilateral Greek-British cooperation signed last year, which envisages the development of defence cooperation.

Finally, the innovation centre will be able to participate in claiming European funds and also submit proposals to the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation, which was recently established by the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Dendias.
