Saudi Arabia hosted a summit of Arab leaders to discuss their response to US President Donald Trump’s plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and displace its population.

King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt appear in the official summit photo, while there were no representatives from Oman.

Following the conclusion of the session, no official statement was issued, and no announcements were made. The Egyptian presidency later confirmed that President Sisi had departed Riyadh after attending an informal meeting on the Palestinian issue.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia sought to manage expectations, describing the meeting as informal and clarifying that any unresolved matters would be included on the agenda of the Arab Summit scheduled for 4 March.

Diplomats and analysts note that while there is broad consensus across the Arab world in opposition to Trump’s “vision”, there are differing views on the governance of the Palestinian enclave and the funding of reconstruction efforts.
