Police authorities arrested four Turkish nationals yesterday Thursday in Rhodes, because they did not have a permit for the work they were executing.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) had the Turks under surveillance, as they had been spotted on another island carrying out similar work
It is noted that for work on mobile phone antennas at the border, contractors are required to have a special permit. After a check, it was found that the four arrested did not have a license for these works.
The fact that they did not meet the conditions was considered suspicious by the Hellenic Police, who proceeded to arrest them.
The operator, who also did not have a license to install the antenna, reportedly confirmed that the four Turks were carrying out work on his behalf. The crew had come from the neighboring country due to lower daily wages.
Similar incidents have occurred on other islands.
There is, however, a report according to which the competent authorities, based on the data they have collected, consider that this is not a case of espionage, but a case concerning non-compliance with the prescribed security procedures.
